For the 2017 FIBA EuroBasket championship, fans had an entirely new way to follow Europe’s biggest basketball tournament – via an official app. Developed by the experts at Infront Sports & Media subsidiary Infront X, the app was downloaded 256,000 times during the competition and offered each and every user a fully customisable experience. Its wide range of content helped to create a cohort of fans more engaged in the action than ever before.

A dynamic, fully customisable digital experience

The FIBA EuroBasket championship brings together 24 of Europe’s top teams, who compete for top honours over two and a half weeks of intense competition. To ensure fans had all the information about the tournament at their fingertips – and via the means through which they increasingly consume content – 2017 saw the launch of an official app.

Available on both Android and iOS, the app was created for FIBA by Infront's subsidiary Infront X. With the ability to follow three favourite teams and up to 10 favourite players, users could instantly check in on the performance of the squads and competitors who were most important to them. Exclusive video content included highlights, best plays and press conferences alongside full games. Meanwhile, a results section offered live statistics during matches and in-depth statistics on players and teams. The app was also home to the match schedule for the entire competition, allowing fans to easily see which ties were coming up.

During the championship, the app was downloaded 256,000 times and users engaged with it on more than 4.5 million occasions. Impressively, the average time each person spent on the app in any one session was 07:25 min and 154,000 users subscribed to ‘push’ notifications, informing them of the action as it happened.User feedback on the app experience was overwhelmingly positive. It earned an average score of 4.4 out of 5 across both Android and iOS.
