Rome, Italy – Run Rome The Marathon will continue under its current organising structure through to 2031, after the consortium of Infront Italy, Corriere dello Sport – Stadio and SSD Rome Marathon Runners was awarded the latest public tender by Roma Capitale.

The next edition of the race will take place on Sunday 14 March 2027.

The renewal extends a partnership that has overseen a period of rapid growth for the event. Since the launch of the current project in 2019, participation has increased from 8,000 runners in 2021 to a record 36,000 marathon entries in 2026, with 75% of participants travelling from abroad across 166 countries.

Including associated events such as the Fun Run and relay races, more than 60,000 people took part across the 2026 race weekend.

This growth has repositioned Run Rome The Marathon from a largely domestic event into one of the most internationally attended marathons, now ranking among the top ten globally by participation.

The event also delivers a significant economic contribution to the city. Studies conducted with Sapienza University estimate an annual impact exceeding €120 million.

Alessandro Onorato, Councillor for Major Events, Sport and Tourism for Roma Capitale, said: ““Infront Italy and Corriere dello Sport – Stadio will continue to organize the Rome Marathon for the next five years. The offices of the Sports Department have formalized the assignment following the closure of the public tender. The great news for the city is that the concession is worth €1.25 million per year, more than triple the €333,000 paid for the last two editions. In practice, one edition of the next marathon will be worth as much as the previous five combined. Overall, €6.2 million will flow into public finances, in addition to all the economic benefits linked to the event. This confirms how, thanks to the work of this administration and the organizers, the Rome Marathon has grown and become a major global event. In 2021, when we took office, there were 8,000 participants, with 20% from abroad, whereas the latest edition closed with 60,000 registrations across all races, with more than 70% coming from overseas.”

Infront’s role in scaling the event

Infront Italy has played a central role in developing the event’s international profile, working alongside its partners to expand participation, attract a global field and position Rome as a destination race on the international calendar.

Alessandro Giacomini, Managing Director of Infront Italy, said: “Run Rome The Marathon has evolved into a global platform that showcases the city while generating tangible economic impact. The extension of this partnership reflects the progress made to date and the opportunity ahead to further strengthen the event’s international standing.”

Daniele Quinzi, Marketing Director at Corriere dello Sport – Stadio, said: “The project has delivered a clear step change for the marathon in Rome. With the new agreement in place, the focus is now on continuing that trajectory and further enhancing the event’s appeal and experience.”

Lorenzo Benfenati, Race Director and Senior Manager at Infront Italy, said: “The growth of Run Rome The Marathon over the past six years has been driven by a clear vision and consistent execution. The next phase is about building on that foundation and continuing to tap into the global growth of the marathon landscape.”

Looking ahead to 2027

The 2027 edition will mark the 32nd running of the Rome Marathon. Following a sold-out 2026 race, where entries reached capacity four months in advance, demand is expected to remain strong.

With the new five-year cycle confirmed, organisers will look to further scale participation, deepen international reach, and strengthen the event’s position within the global running calendar.
