New York, USA – OMNIGON, one of the world’s leading digital services firms in sports and a subsidiary of Infront Sports & Media, a Wanda Sports company, has been awarded an Interactive Media Award with the highest honour of ‘Best in Class’ distinction for its work on the DFB Cup mobile app. The award recognises outstanding achievement and the highest standards of excellence in the fields of web design and development.
Match day experience combined with continuous fan engagement
As a partner to Infront for over 35 years, the German Football Association (DFB) selected OMNIGON to design and develop its all-new mobile and tablet apps in advance of the 2016/17 season. OMNIGON designed an interface that would provide the ultimate match day experience while also allowing for continuous fan engagement opportunities to ignite interest and excite fans globally throughout the year.
The DFB Cup mobile app was released in August 2016 both in German and English, with a series of unique gamification features to engage fans worldwide. Once registered and interacting with the app, fans are able to earn a series of points that provide automatic entry into various sweepstakes with prizes including tickets to the finals, jerseys, autographed memorabilia and other Cup-related gifts. The app also includes a Match Hub with full live statistics, detailed club and player pages, photo and video galleries and a robust social media hub.
Ralf Köttker, DFB Media Director: “We are delighted that the DFB Cup mobile app has won this award only seven months after its launch. The recognition shows that the features of the app are not only well received by the fans but also positively valued and appreciated by international experts. Our goal remains to further refine and advance the app for all DFB Cup fans with innovative and creative features.”
Stephan Herth, Executive Director Summer Sports at Infront: “We are extremely honoured to receive the Interactive Media Award with 'Best in Class’ distinction for the DFB Cup mobile app. Since we launched the product last summer, interest has been constantly high and led the German iTunes charts in the Sports category during both the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and the UEFA EURO 2016. The app was produced from initial concept through to implementation and marketed together with our partner the DFB and our subsidiary OMNIGON. As a result, the project perfectly demonstrates our competence as a digital provider with capabilities along the entire value chain.”
Three more awards
Besides the award for the DFB Cup mobile app, OMNIGON received another three Interactive Media Awards with a ‘Best in Class’ distinction for AS Roma’s all-new responsive website and mobile apps, FC Bayern München’s suite of mobile and tablet apps as well as The Rugby Channel’s new over-the-top (OTT) platform. It marks the first time that OMNIGON has been recognised with the top honour in more than two projects in a given year.
Domenica Alban, spokeswoman for Interactive Media Awards: “In terms of web design and development, OMNIGON is clearly world-class. Each OMNIGON entry went through a comprehensive evaluation process. In the end, they each earned exceptionally high marks across all evaluation criteria. This is an unmistakable sign of a top-tier digital agency.”
David Nugent, OMNIGON’s Chief Commercial Officer: “OMNIGON is extremely proud to have been recognised for these four projects by the Interactive Media Awards, all with ‘Best in Class’ distinction. This is an incredible honour for everyone in our organisation. Our teams worked hand in hand with our partners, to create the final products and we are all exceptionally proud of what we have achieved.”
