Long-term agreement secures coverage across seven European markets, with Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg added from 2027
Zug, Switzerland – Infront and SPORTEUROPE.TV have extended their media rights agreement for the IIHF World Championship™ through to 2031, strengthening the long-term distribution of one of international ice hockey’s leading events across Europe.
Under the new agreement, SPORTEUROPE.TV has secured media rights to the IIHF World Championship for the 2029 to 2031 period. The extension builds on the existing agreement through 2028 and provides a long-term platform for the continued development of coverage across SPORTEUROPE.TV’s European markets.
The partnership will also expand geographically from 2027, with Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg joining Germany, Austria, France and Italy. This will bring SPORTEUROPE.TV’s IIHF World Championship rights footprint to seven European markets.
Björn Beinhauer, CEO of SPORTEUROPE.TV, said: “Ice hockey thrives on emotion, a sense of connection and unforgettable moments – and it is precisely these moments that we want to make accessible to fans. With this early extension, we are demonstrating our long-term commitment to top-flight international ice hockey. SPORTEUROPE.TV is thus continuing to develop as the ‘Home of Ice Hockey’ and ranks among the largest European rights holders in the sport. This sends a strong signal to our viewers, partners and the market as a whole.”
Jens Mennigmann, Co-Head of Media at Infront, said: “SPORTEUROPE.TV has shown a clear commitment to building the visibility and accessibility of international ice hockey across Europe. Extending the partnership through to 2031 gives us the long-term platform to continue developing the reach of the IIHF World Championship, while the addition of Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg from 2027 brings the competition to fans across an even broader footprint.”
