New broadcasters prepare for WEC season-opener

Media rights for 2019/20 season sold across 180 territories

Zug, Switzerland – Infront, a Wanda Sports Group company and the exclusive media rights partner of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), has secured broadcasters across 180 territories for the 2019/20 season which begins this Sunday at the 4 Hours of Silverstone.

New partnerships include Sony India and Brazilian broadcaster Band Sport with the latter also providing full coverage of the 6 Hours of Sao Paolo which returns for the first time since 2014 in February 2020.

Eurosport (Europe and Asia), MotorsportTV (Europe), Fox Latam (Central and South America) and Supersport (Africa) have also struck pan-regional deals.

The first half of the 2018/19 "Super Season" saw a 115 million increase in cumulative audience to 255 million. The cumulative news audience also rose by 139 per cent.

This season also sees the 8 Hours of Bahrain return for the first time since 2017 whilst the 6 Hours of Fuji in Japan, 4 Hour of Shanghai in China, 1000 Miles of Sebring in USA and TOTAL 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium remain from the 2018/19 calendar. The 24 Hours of Le Mans will once again provide the season finale. 

A total of 31 cars will start on the grid and four global motor manufacturers will be among them.

Two-time FIA WEC champion Brendon Hartley will also return to the grid for the first time since his 2017 championship winning season. The New Zealander will replace Fernando Alonso at Toyota, who will be hoping to defend their title this year.
